Asia, home to 60% of the world's population, boasts an ancient history, diverse cultures, and some of the largest enterprises and most advanced technologies anywhere. Its influence on global patterns of political, financial, and cultural interaction is large and growing. With an emphasis on East and Southeast Asia, this major provides students with in-depth understanding of the region's past, present, and future—from art, literature, and religion to politics, business, and diplomacy. Courses are also offered to help students master three of the region's principal languages—Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin), and Korean. Asian studies majors also enjoy access to the programs of TUJ's Institute of Contemporary Asian Studies.
