Areas of Expertise
Professor Burrett is an expert on comparative politics, with special reference to Britain and the former Soviet Union. She also works on democratic and transition theory. She has a keen interest in parliamentary politics and reform and has worked in legislatures in Britain, Canada, Japan and the EU. Professor Burrett's op-eds appear in the The Japan Times, The New Internationalist and The New Statesman.
Teaching Interests
Professor Burrett teaches courses on post-communism, global political economy, British politics, nationalism and comparative government and politics.
Research
Professor Burrett's research interests focus on political leadership, elites, national policy-making networks and democratic renewal and reform. She has recently completed a book on presidential power and the national television media in Russia. She is currently working on a second book investigating the relationship between leadership and political agency in Britain and Japan.
