Program Features
The M.S.Ed. Program in Philadelphia and Japan
The M.S.Ed. Program in Japan is virtually identical to the one offered at the main campus in Philadelphia. A student graduating from TUJ receives a diploma from the College of Education at Temple University, a fully accredited and internationally recognized school of education. Students accepted into TUJ's TESOL program can take all or part of their course work in Japan. Students who choose to start their course work in Japan and complete it in Philadelphia can do so without problems involving transfer of credit or loss of time.
The M.S.Ed. and Ed.D. degrees offered at TUJ are recognized by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
Enthusiastic Faculty and Motivated Students
In the M.S.Ed. Program at TUJ, you will work with internationally respected faculty. You will learn with fellow graduate students who are motivated, experienced professionals, serious about their careers. After graduation, you will become a part of the well-established alumni network at TUJ, at Temple University in Philadelphia, and in the TESOL community in Japan and the rest of the world.
Flexible Program and Flexible Schedule
A flexible entry policy allows you to start the M.S.Ed. Program at any time (January through December) and to take up to nine credits before matriculating. The credits you earn before matriculating can be carried over towards your Master's degree once you are admitted to the degree program. A flexible program for completion allows you to finish the M.S.Ed. degree in one to four years. Classes are offered on weekday evenings and on weekends at accessible locations in central Tokyo. This allows you to work and study at the same time.
Distinguished Lecturer Series
You have the opportunity to attend nine special lectures every year in the Distinguished Lecturer Series, which brings international experts in all aspects of TESOL, Applied Linguistics, and Second Language Acquisition to TUJ. These lectures are designed to enhance students' knowledge of current pedagogical practices and to develop their ability to conduct high quality educational research. For more information about upcoming lectures, please see the Distinguished Lecturer Series section for the Tokyo Center.
