The Central and West Tokyo Chapters of JALT, along with Temple University, Japan Campus, are proud to present a workshop by world-reknown teacher trainer Dr. John Fanselow.

In this workshop, we will experience ways to make predictions in reading language as you make predictions in other areas of your life such as discovering how to open and close doors, which button to touch on a VCR, etc.

Abstract

Teachers in their classrooms need to have opportunities to learn more about their teaching and the learning activities they use. Said another way, there is a vital need to provide workshops for teachers to experience alternative practices to those so firmly in place. Because no matter what reforms are made, what teachers do in their classrooms each day is the most important variable.

To contribute to the effort to change the teaching of English in Japan, International Pacific College in New Zealand has provided workshops since 1999 with the goal of changing English teaching in Japan. The name we at IPC have given to all the workshops, no matter what the topic is, is Teachers for Change. The name reflects out belief that it is only the teachers who can change English Education in Japan. The ministry and the universities can change policies, the publishers can change different books. But those in the classroom will determine how much teaching changes.
