Contest: Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Temple University, Japan Campus in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy Tokyo will sponsor a contest to commemorate the observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. national holiday of January 21, 2008.


Theme of the Contest

Martin Luther King's Dream in a Divided World

Entry Guidelines

Submissions related to the theme may be one of the following:

  • An original essay of 500-700 words: Word document format, size 12 times font, double-spaced
  • An original visual creation (sketch, drawing, painting etc.): Maximum size: A3
  • An original short film: 10 minutes or less

All entries must include student's name, ID number and Temple email address.
All entries must be submitted in hard copy as well as electronic format (email attachment).
Film entries may be submitted on a CD or DVD.

Submission deadline

Friday, February 15th at 17:00

Friday, February 22nd at TUJ 12:00- 12:30

Grand Prizes
Gala 1-day Ski Pass for 2 to Echigo Yuzawa includes full ski rental, Shinkansen tickets, and ski course. (Donated by Asst. 2nd - 4th prize
5,000 yen Tower Records gift certificate (Donated by TUJ ICJS); 5,000 yen bookstore gift certificate (Donated by Ayanna Hobbs, U.S. Foreign Service Officer); 5,000 yen bookstore gift certificate (Donated by TUJ OIS)


All winners will be given a tour of the US Embassy, photo taken with US Embassy official; lunch at US Embassy cafeteria; and presented with a CD of popular music.
