About Phil Deans

Dr. Deans serves as Assistant Dean, Director of the Undergraduate Program and Director of Research. He is an expert on the politics and international relations of northeast Asia, with special reference to Sino-Japanese relations and Taiwan. He taught at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London, and has lived and done research in Taiwan, China, and Japan. He also works on the international political economy of the region, and the changing significance of nationalism in northeast Asia. (Please see here for more details).
