We are happy to invite you to an ICJS Korea Japan Business Seminar at Temple University, Japan Campus. Skipp Orr will give us his perspective on the evolution of Japan's defense policy. In particular, he will address the imbalance between Japan's strategic goals, its budget, and the workings of its military industrial complex.
About Skipp Orr
Skipp brings to the debate a unique set of qualifications. Having worked in Washington on Capitol Hill and USAID, he obtained his Ph. D. in politics at the University of Tokyo, taught at Temple University and served as director of the Kyoto Center for Japanese Studies and the Stanford Center for Technology and Innovation. He then became Vice President of Government Relations at Motorola Japan. Following two years with Motorola Brussels, he returned to Japan as President of Boeing Japan, from which he retired in 2007. Thanks for Boeing's role as both as a major supplier of defense equipment to the SDF, an industrial partner of Japanese arms contractors as well as a key player in the Japanese civilian aerospace industry, Skipp has a keen understanding of the politics and economics of Japanese military affairs. At Boeing, he presided over the Boeing's largest industrial project in Japan, the design and manufacturing of 35% of Boeing's 787 Dreamliner by Japanese corporations.
