Online Service Request

You can request some library services on the website by filling out the online request form. Please pay attention to the notes on each request. All correspondence regarding these services will be made by e-mail. When your requested materials are ready or if we encounter any problems with your request, we will contact you by e-mail. If you have any questions about your requests, please contact us at library@tuj.ac.jp.

Use of the online request form is intended for and restricted to TUJ degree students, faculty, and staff. Temple University ID number, library barcode number and e-mail address are required.

You can request the following:

TUJ Owned Materials

With this form you can request items from other TUJ campuses or place a hold on items checked out from your local campus library. You may request materials only from other TUJ campuses. If you are associated with the Tokyo campus, you may request items from the Osaka campus, and vice versa.

Articles will be sent in digital form to your e-mail account when they are ready.

Please always check the Online Catalog first.

Materials from Temple Main Campus

You may request books and journal articles from Main Campus libraries. Please make sure that the books or journals are unavailable in the TUJ library or through the Online databases in the TUPortal. You can search the Main Campus library holdings by accessing http://libproxy.temple.edu:2067.

Charges:

  • Articles will be sent in digital form to your e-mail account in about a week. They are free of charge.
  • Books will be sent from TU by post and you will be charged ¥500/book.

Please always check the Online Catalog first.

Materials from Other Libraries

If materials are not available in TUJ or TU libraries, you may request books and journal articles from other libraries, mainly university libraries in Japan. Book requests are limited to Tokyo students. For Osaka students, please refer to the Request to Visit Other Libraries. Also, NACSIS Webcat (http://webcat.nii.ac.jp) is helpful for checking the locations of books and journals in Japan.

Charges:

  • Articles will be available in paper copies. The charge is ¥10/page.
  • We can only order books for use at the Tokyo campus library. The charge is ¥500/book. (If students in Osaka need this service, please contact us at the Tokyo Library.)

Note: When we must purchase articles from commercial venders, the charge will be the full amount charged by the vender. These charges vary by vender. If you want to be notified of the cost in advance of ordering, please indicate that on the request form.

Please always check the Online Catalog first.

Request to Visit Other Libraries

If you have a need to visit another library to review materials, please contact us at library@tuj.ac.jp so we can process your request. You may never visit another university library without receiving prior written approval. Once we receive your request we will apply for written approval for your visit to the desired library. You can search locations of books and journals in Japan with accessing NACSIS Webcat (http://webcat.nii.ac.jp).

Note: If TUJ library has the material, the letter will not be issued. Please check our Online Catalog before you apply.

Purchase Request

If you would like to recommend that we purchase specific items, please write the purpose of your request in detail and e-mail us at library@tuj.ac.jp. We will reply to you with our decision in a few days. Please note that some books might be out of print or out of stock. If we decide to purchase the item, we will send you a notice by e-mail when the book is available to use.

Reference Question or Comment

Please e-mail to library@tuj.ac.jp to submit reference questions (questions about library resources, help with searching databases, general reference questions) to the library staff or to submit comments regarding the library website. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
