LL.M. in Transnational Law
The LL.M. in Transnational Law is an innovative degree designed to enable students with a first degree in law to develop expertise, special knowledge, and practical experience in transnational law. Transnational LL.M. students may take elective courses in private and public international law, international commercial law and finance, and comparative law.
This LL.M. requires completion of our International Law course and 24 credit hours of additional study from our international law curriculum including a scholarly paper. The International Law course requirement may be waived if a student completed an identical course during their prior academic studies. Students may complete their Transnational LL.M. degree in 9 months as a full-time student, or 1 to 4 years as a part-time student. Students must complete the entire LL.M. program with a grade point average of 2.5 or better. Students holding a law degree from a jurisdiction outside of Japan are eligible to earn the entire degree in Tokyo. Other students need to study abroad for one semester in Philadelphia or Rome.
