The General LL.M. Program
The "General LL.M. Program" also known as the LL.M. for International Law Graduates gives you the freedom to design a study program tailored to your specific interests. You may select among a wide range of courses concentrating on commercial law, business law, intellectual property law, international and comparative law, dispute resolution, and others. The only required courses are a writing seminar and Legal Research & Writing, which introduce students to the U.S. legal system and teach necessary research techniques and writing skills.
To qualify for admission into the General LL.M. program, candidates must have a law degree (LL.B./LL.M./equivalent) or license to practice law in their home jurisdiction. English proficiency is also required. If you do not meet these qualifications, we encourage you to explore our certificate or audit programs.
To earn this degree, students must complete 24 credits of study. Most courses are 2 or 3 credits. Students may complete part or all of their degree at our main campus. However, if it is difficult to study overseas for an extended period, students may complete up to 75% of this degree in Tokyo. The remaining credits must be completed at our Philadelphia or Rome campus. This is possible during a single summer semester either at main campus (7 weeks) or in Rome (5 weeks). Students may complete their LL.M. degree in 9 months as a full-time student, or 1 to 4 years as a part-time student. LL.M. studies must be completed with a grade point average of 2.0 or better.
