Certificate of International Law and Certificate of American Legal Studies
Temple Law School offers two certificate programs at its Tokyo campus: the Certificate of International Law and the Certificate of American Legal Studies. By obtaining a certificate from Temple Law, you will obtain valuable legal knowledge and distinguish yourself among your peers. While a certificate is not a qualification to practice law, it does demonstrate that the recipient has engaged in the specialized study of American or international law at a renowned U.S. law school.
The certificate programs are ideal for legal practitioners desiring to study law in English who are unable to travel overseas for an extended period. Also, qualified individuals without a law degree who have earned a degree in a related field or who have legal-related professional experience may enroll in our certificate programs. Non-law graduates may be required to interview to determine their eligibility for admission.
Certificate students must complete 12 credit hours of course work with a grade point average of 2.0 or better. Students without a law degree must attend the first two classes of Legal Research & Writing; they need not register for the entire course. For students seeking the Certificate of International Law, 75% of the credits earned must be in "international" or "comparative" courses. Similarly, to earn the Certificate of American Legal Studies, 75% of the credits taken must be in domestic U.S. law. All course work must be completed within a 3 year period. Adequate English language skills are required for admission into our certificate programs.
