Event Overview
An expert in the field of media and communications law, Judge Korthals Altes has published numerous books and articles (both in English and Dutch) on journalistic privilege and protecting sources, privacy issues in telecommunications, broadcasting in Europe and information law in the 21st century. He annually teaches a course on European Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law at New York Law School and is frequently invited to former Eastern-bloc countries to give presentations to judges, lawyers and journalists on Western principles of freedom of expression, protection of journalists' sources, defamation and media law generally.
Formerly Associate Professor and Head of Education and Research at the University of Amsterdam, Faculty of Law and the Institute for Information Law, Judge Korthals Altes now sits as a judge in the Arrondissementrechtsbank (District Court) Amsterdam, and is visiting Tokyo for a few days only.
