The power of written persuasion constitutes the core of all legal advocacy. This one-day workshop, taught by a US licensed attorney, reviews the basic principles of creating a strong written legal argument through examples and practice.
After first learning the fundamentals of creating a legal cause-of-action, we will turn to the basics of laying out a cohesive, logical line of reasoning for influencing a reader. In the course of reading and analyzing case studies provided by the instructor, students will have the opportunity to practice writing their own legal arguments and develop their skills of written persuasion.

Instructor: Grant Stillman
Grant Stillman has been the Legal Adviser and Senior Administrative Officer at the Asian Development Bank Institute, a nonprofit international organization based in Tokyo, since its startup in 1998. His doctorate in International Relations was awarded by Monash University and he obtained a Masters in International Law while studying as a fellow at Georgetown Law Center.
He is pleased to be returning to Temple after a midcareer sabbatical at the Geneva Institute for Advanced Studies where he completed his book on global non-government organizations. Grant also enjoys writing about film history and producing for community theater (watch out for Pippin this May)! For TUJ he teaches public international law, international trade law, legal writing and --his favorite -- NGO law and governance.
