Technical Writing for the IT Industry (WIT101)

Do you like writing? Are you reasonably familiar with technical concepts, procedures and terminologies? Here is a way to combine those skills for a career (or second career) as a technical writer. In this course, students will learn how to: 1) create and organize an effective document structure (including documents for online writing); 2) perform audience and user task analysis; 3) write clear and simple procedures and steps; 4) follow legal guidelines (copyrights, trademarks, third party web references, protection of confidential information, etc.); 5) work with illustrations (layout, formats and styles); 6) write about GUI technologies, dialog boxes, menus and other mechanical elements of documents; 7) create glossaries and indexes.
