What is the AEP?
Simply Japan's Best
English Preparation Program
Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ)'s Academic English Program (AEP) differs from other similar programs for three reasons. We offer experience of Japan, high standards, and help to academic English students.
TUJ offers the longest-running American academic program in Japan. We've been teaching academic English since our 1982 establishment in Tokyo. I bring to the AEP directorship 20 years of teaching academic English to nonnative English speakers. So I know AEP students and their needs firsthand.
The AEP reflects TUJ's high standards. Full-time instructors have master's or doctor's degrees in language teaching. And AEP classrooms feature leading ideas from TUJ's world-class master's and doctor's programs in TESOL. AEP instructors participate in those programs' ongoing seminars and are supported by advanced TESOL master's students as teaching assistants.
No university in Japan offers so extensive a blend of practice and theory in teaching second-language learners. TUJ also maintains quality with small classes of 15 to 22 students. Personal attention is furthered through a support system of English-speaking and bilingual advisors and English-speaking undergraduate teacher's aides, increasing students' exposure to English.
The AEP's systematic development of basic reading, vocabulary, study and test-taking skills, and cultural understanding propels students to success in academic English and further positions TUJ ahead of other institutions in Japan. Courses apply proven materials in individually paced yet intensive lessons to ensure core language proficiency and rapid progress toward undergraduate work. Underpinned by a curriculum and instructors that I am truly proud of, TUJ's AEP is simply Japan's best English preparation program.
