TUJ to launch special scholarship for afflicted students

In the aftermath of the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami that hit Eastern Japan, TUJ has established a special scholarship program for undergraduate students who have been affected by the disaster. The fund was set up in conjunction with the relief effort at Temple's main campus in Philadelphia and aims to ease the financial difficulties faced by degree-seeking students from the disaster-stricken areas. For application details, please see the announcement page.

News:

Ambassador Orr speaks at ICAS

Ambassador Robert "Skipp" Orr, American Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank, spoke at an ICAS event on April 21 on the role of the Asian Development Bank. Skipp Orr taught at TUJ in the 1980s and served on the Board of Governors. It was fitting to welcome him at the first ICAS policy lecture after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Ambassador Orr reviewed the history of the Bank, its role in assisting development throughout the region, and the role of the Directors in the Bank.

Temple community comes together to recommit to Japan

On May 2, Temple University held a ceremony to reaffirm its unique relationship to TUJ and Japan as part of its ongoing effort to provide support to the country. The ceremony, which was opened with painting of the right eye of a Daruma doll, featured teach-in sessions, followed by cultural activities and a reception. Among the attendees to the event were Ambassador Shigeyuki Hiroki, consul general of Japan in New York, and Dennis Morikawa, honorary consul general of Japan in Philadelphia. Video footage of the ceremony can be viewed here.
