In Memoriam:

On April 10, 2010, TUJ alumnus, a TV cameraperson for Reuters, Hiroyuki Muramoto was killed while filming the recent riots in Bangkok. Muramoto-san graduated from TUJ with an Associate of Arts degree in 1988 and subsequently worked for Reuters covering major events in Japan and abroad for more than 15 years. The TUJ community mourns his tragic death and we would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family.

TUJ News:

TUJ Film Festival 2010

Every spring, the School of Communications and Theater hosts TUJ Film Festival as part of its Intermediate Topics in Media and Telecommunication Production course. This year, more than 20 entries were received from current students & alumni, and 7 selected films with a total length of 100 minutes were screened. The event was yet another success with attendance exceeding 100 people, most of them from outside of TUJ. The titles shown include: ATTACK OF THE KILLER RED CHRISTMAS CANDLE by Sayuri Hoshikawa (4 Min) AKI THE DORM MANAGER by Students of the 2009 Documentary Course (8 Min) FROM ME, TOMORROW by Noritaka Inoue (14 Min) STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE by Sei Dickinson (5 Min) A FLOWER THROUGH THE LENS by Yohei Ogawa (10 Min) RENSA by Kosuke Sanada (45 Min) CROSSROADS by Jeremy Rubier (20 Min).


Announcements:

Sayonara Professor Pike

Professor Kathleen Pike joined TUJ in 2004 and has taught courses in the areas of developmental, clinical, and cognitive psychology along with topical seminars on culture, assessment, and research methods. She will end her tenure at TUJ as a Assistant Dean for Research, leading the efforts and initiatives to advance TUJ's research and other scholarly missions. Professor Pike has left a lasting impression and her work will survive at TUJ with the establishment of the TUJ Research '& Creative Works Symposium along with a variety of efforts. Best wishes to Professor Pike!


First Annual Diamond Club Dinner (June 5)

TUJ Diamond Club will host the Annual TUJ Diamond Club Dinner on Saturday, June 5th at Hotel New Otani.  The event will be our effort to raise funds to expand programs, scholarship funds, facility expansion, and other areas of needs.  The event will be filled with products from our sponsors Club Med, IACE Travels, Virgin Atlantic, Mandarin Oriental, Premium Rentacar, Village Cellars, Mokumedo, Berry Brothers & Rudd, Salvatore Ferragamo Parfums, and Grand Hyatt.  If you would like to attend, please contact the Development Office at tujdiamondclub@tuj.temple.edu for further details.


Corporate Education now offering Logical Writing Workshop in Japanese

TUJ Corporate Education periodically holds educational functions such as open seminars, speaker events, and workshops that are of interest to corporate audiences. Applications for CE's new Logical Writing Workshop are now being accepted. The workshop is comprised of two parts: focuses on how to utilize logical thinking frameworks for more structured business writing and centers on how to write in a logical and persuasive manner. Practical writing activities and lively discussions are integral elements of the program. Participants will be individually assessed on their efforts at the conclusion of the course.
