WSJ Weekly Column by TUJ Alumna

TUJ alumna Sakurako Oshima (BA '93) is currently authoring a column "Business English Email" in the Lifestyle section on the Wall Street Journal, Japan Online Edition, which was launched last December. The weekly column focuses on English expressions commonly used in email in business situations and also provides useful tips on English composition and cultural etiquette. A successful teacher, translator/interpreter and author, Sakurako is the director of office b.i., a company which provides corporate English training, consulting, and workshops.

Musashi students visit TUJ for language exchange

As part of the partnership agreement signed April last year with Musashi University, TUJ has opened up some of its student activities to Musashi students. On January 22, more than sixty students, including twelve Musashi students, gathered to join the first meeting of the Language Partner Program of the semester, organized by Office of Student Services (OSS). Students met their language partners, exchanged contacts, and enjoyed chatting both in Japanese and English. Musashi students may have looked rather shy at first, but they soon blended well into the group.

Sayonara Holly!

For those who have worked with her, Holly Helt has been a friend and an inspiration, and her contribution at TUJ has taken the campus in exciting new directions. Holly assumed the position of Alumni & Development Officer at TUJ in September, 2007, after moving to Tokyo from New York City. Since then, she has taken on a number of new initiatives, including the Diamond Club, First Friday events, as well as therapy dog visits to a local hospital with her dog Jasmine as part of TUJ's service to the community. Holly and co. have now decided to take their next step to London and spread more love and joy around the globe. We wish her the best in her new endeavors, and will miss all the great energy and enthusiasm she brought to TUJ!
