POKEN Magic hits TUJ!

Our department's unofficial Poken "Frank"

Want to totally transform the way you interact in the real world? Facebook, Mixi, and Skype exploded onto the scene but it's still a drag to swap information to stay in touch. Shitake-mamachari4376@cosmic-net.ne.jp anyone? Try scribbling that on a napkin at Muse.

Enter POKEN. This keyring-friendly USB device lets you exchange contact details and social networking info with just a high five. Simply pull out your cute POKEN character and high five your new best friend. Clever RF technology then grabs the info so the next time you log onto your favorite site, your profiles are linked. Pure genius!

What's even more genius is that TUJ is the very first school in Japan to team up with POKEN. Students attending the first orientation session in August received a free one to start spreading the POKEN love. Get yours on the 7th floor Annex! Visit Poken website for more juicy details and get high-fiving!

The father of PET imaging is a TU alumnus

Dr. David E. Kuhl, the father of positron emission tomography and a Temple University alumnus, has recently been awarded the 2009 Japan Prize for technological integration of medical science and engineering, one of the most prestigious scientific awards in the world. Dr. Kuhl graduated from Temple Univeristy with a B.A. in physics in 1951 before he went on to continue his graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania. In the 1950s, he introduced the method of tomographic imaging, which was further developed into the PET imaging technique widely used in the medical field today. Dr. Kuhl is currently residing as a professor of radiology at the University of Michigan Medical School. Read more about Dr. Kuhl's achievements.
