The leading experts on Taiwan on the panel will have spent the previous week in Taiwan, visiting the headquarters of the major parties, meeting with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Mainland Affairs Council and other government offices, and acting as observers of the Central Election Commission on election day.

Showing Japan's Teachers the Promise and Diversity of America

Having direct knowledge of what you teach can make a huge difference in the classroom. The "US Study Tour for Teachers from Japan" program is a historical and cultural study tour that offers essential input for Japanese high school teachers* about the United States. Through visits to Tokyo and two major cities in the U.S., participants will have a unique opportunity to experience American issues first-hand and to more effectively incorporate relevant material into their curriculums.

The program, which is supported by the United States-Japan Foundation, sponsored by Zeneiren (the English National Educational Research Association) and run by TUJ, starts during the last week of July. The stops include TUJ's Azabu Hall campus in Tokyo, the Temple University main campus in Philadelphia, and New York City.

Saturday, July 26 to Friday, August 1
Tokyo, Philadelphia and New York

* Tour participation is limited to high school teachers who are also Japanese nationals. If that describes you, and you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, please click here to get more details and to download the PDF application form.

First "Total Immersion" Session Gets Great Results

A total immersion program designed to help prospective TUJ undergrads cope with culture shock took place on March 9 at Azabu Hall, with 63 Japanese high school students getting concentrated face-time with 25 American TUJ students in an all-English environment.

Although understandably nervous at first, the students soon got into the mood, mingling with their TUJ counterparts, trying various experiential intercultural games and activities, and consuming copious amounts of pizza, snacks and soda. At the end of the day the participants were relaxed and smiling, and went home with good memories of their time at TUJ. The next total immersion is set for July.

Future TUJ Business Leaders Visit Tokyo Stock Exchange

Members of a new student-run club called the TUJ World Business Organization (WBO) organized a visit to the Tokyo Stock Exchange in February. Many WBO members are among TUJ's first wave of business management majors attending the Fox School Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program launched in Tokyo in fall 2007. TUJ already has more than 100 business majors.
