Alumni Reunion 2006 Brings Back Friends and Memories

Over 100 people - including TUJ alumni, staff, faculty, and members of the Board of Governors - gathered at the Tokyo American Club on October 17 for the first-ever reunion hosted by TUJ's Alumni Association. Michiyo Matsuoka, the Alumni Association's vice president, started the night off by introducing the Association's activities. Dean Kirk Patterson then welcomed everyone with a brief message and a kanpai. The evening featured a slide show displaying scenes from past alumni events, and various Temple-gifts were handed out in appreciation of the many kind donations from TUJ alumni and guests. The night was an overwhelming success, with attendees clearly enjoying the chance to reconnect with classmates and the greater TUJ community.

Undergrad Enrollment Hits Record High

The number of undergraduate students reached a new record high of 678 during the fall semester--18% more than a year ago to continue TUJ's strong growth trend. A third of the new students are from overseas, hailing from a total of 36 countries. The rapid expansion of TUJ's student body has spurred the university to expand operations in various ways, including hiring new faculty and staff, establishing a satellite campus in Mita, and opening a third dormitory near Ontakesan Station on the Tokyu Ikegami Line.

TUJ Team Races Hard in YMCA International Charity Run

A six-person TUJ team represented the university at the September 30 YMCA Charity Run in Yoyogi Park, marking the second year TUJ has participated in the event. Four TUJ staff members and two friends each ran 1.5 kilometers on the course. Of the 88 teams competing, the TUJ six placed 25th overall, just two minutes off a top-ten pace. All money raised from the event goes to YMCA programs that support and boost awareness of mentally and physically challenged children across Japan.
