Institute of Contemporary Japanese Studies to Foster Research on Japan

Tokyo, September 21, 2004-Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) is pleased to announce its establishment of the Institute of Contemporary Japanese Studies (ICJS), effective September 1, 2004. The ICJS is dedicated to fostering research on various topics related to contemporary Japan. Its founding reflects TUJ's commitment to developing greater understanding of Japan abroad, to offering programs that show Japan's relationship with other countries, and to being an innovator and a leader in international education in Japan. The Institute of Contemporary Japanese Studies will undertake a wide range of activities.

This was a continuation of the 117th Commencement of Temple University, which was held at the Philadelphia main campus on May 20.

テンプル大学ジャパンキャンパス(TUJ:東京都港区 学長カーク・パタソン)は、今年8月、恒例となっている「2004年夏休み 高校生のための英語プログラム」を主催します。このプログラムは高校生を対象に、毎年夏休みを利用して行なわれているもので、異文化理解を深めると同時に、実践的な英語力を楽しみながら身につけることを目的としています。国際教育の重要性が指摘されながらも、世界情勢、経済状況等のマイナス要因が海外への留学を難しくしている現状を鑑み、身近でコストを抑え、なおかつ中身の濃いプログラムを実現したもので、昨年に引き続き、全国英語教育研究団体連合会の後援をいただいています。

Temple IT Program Offers New Enhancements to its World-Class Software Systems Development Curriculum

Tokyo, Japan, March 10, 2004-Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) is pleased to announce enhancements to its Information Technology (IT) Program. These upgrades result from an ongoing review of the program by its originating partners: TUJ and iCarnegie, Inc., an educational affiliate of Carnegie Mellon University, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., the world’s top computer science research and educational institution and software development training specialist. In particular, feedback from Carnegie Mellon faculty, from IT employers and software personnel, and from student performance data since the program’s introduction in fall 2003 have led to enhancements that ensure that TUJ students keep pace with this rapidly changing field.

New Major in Tourism and Hospitality Management

Tokyo, February 17, 2004-Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) is pleased to announce another addition to its growing undergraduate program, beginning summer 2004: a Bachelor of Science in Tourism and Hospitality Management (THM). Students will take two years of entry-level courses at TUJ before transferring to Temple University’s main campus in Philadelphia for a final two years of upper-level curricula in the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM). TUJ’s THM major responds to the current and prospective need for trained, globally responsive professionals in tourism and hospitality management.
