The New TUJ:
Global Campus, Global Future
Showa Women’s University (SWU) and Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) have agreed to share a campus at SWU’s current location in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo. TUJ will move its entire operation from its current locations in Minato-ku, Tokyo, scheduled from August 2019, to a planned six-story building on SWU’s campus.
Construction for the new TUJ building is underway. Temple University, Japan Campus has been working closely with Showa Women's University on the project. Below you will find a timeline for construction as well as progress photos from the construction site.
On March 13, 2018, members of Showa Women's University, Tokyu Construction, and Temple University, Japan Campus gathered at the new TUJ campus site in order to perform the Jichinsai, or groundbreaking ceremony, and gain the blessings of the local Kami before beginning construction. The ceremony is a long-standing tradition in Japan and is required before construction of a new building can be done. Pictured above and below, Dean Bruce Stronach and Chancellor Mariko Bando take part in the ritual.
