About Admissions
- 1.
- How can I apply to get a student visa to study at TUJ?
On February 14, 2005, Japan's Ministry of Education designated Temple University Japan as the country's first "Foreign University, Japan Campus." This designation is a milestone for Temple and international education in Japan.
With this recognition, Temple can now sponsor student visas for international students desiring to obtain their MBA degree in Tokyo. To study at Temple University Japan, all international students must either have a student visa or other type of resident visa that covers the period of your study at TUJ (i.e. working, spouse, dependent, etc.).
If necessary, Temple will work with you to acquire a student visa to facilitate your education in Tokyo. Please contact the Management Education Department for more information on visa sponsorship and related matters.
- 2.
- What is the GMAT score required for admission?
Admission decisions are based on each person's entire application portfolio, including prior education, work experience, personal statement and interview, letters of recommendation as well as test scores. Generally, the higher the score the better, but the other factors mentioned will also be considered.
- 4.
- I have studied English extensively; must I take the TOEFL?
Non-native speakers of English must take the TOEFL exam to be admitted to the MBA program. However, applicants who have received an undergraduate or graduate degree from a recognized university completed entirely in English are exempt from taking the TOEFL.
TUJ's Continuing Education program offers a course in TOEFL preparation - Preparation for the TOEFL: Grammar, Listening & Reading.
- 5.
- What types of financial aid are available?
MBA Program offers competitive scholarships to outstanding candidates who have the potential to take on leadership roles in international business. Please see the "Scholarship & Financial Aid" page for more details.

- Can I transfer credits (i.e., courses) from TUJ's MBA program to other MBA programs?
Each business school sets its own policy regarding transfer credits. In general, most schools will not transfer more than two or three courses from another program. In addition, MBA programs that are AACSB accredited usually only accept credits from other accredited schools.
- 7.
- How long does it take to complete the program?
You may complete the program in a minimum of two years.
- 8.
- Do you offer any courses by correspondence?
The MBA program is designed for live (and lively) class meetings. Participation in classroom discussion is a critical part of the learning process, so we do not provide courses by correspondence. Web conferencing is sometimes used to enhance learning and foster group interaction.
- 09.
- What career placement services does your program offer for students when they complete the program?
Most students enter the MBA program at TUJ with the encouragement and support, often financial, of the company for which they work. However, the Career Development Office at TUJ can help students who would like to change companies or careers.

- If I miss a class, what is the process for making it up?
It is preferable not to miss any classes, however, in case a student has to miss a class, the following is suggested. Students should contact the professor in advance to arrange an appointment to discuss the material presented in the missed class. Every class is video-taped, so students who miss a class will have an opportunity to view the tape. Relying on fellow classmates will also be helpful. If you miss more than one class, you are required to repeat the course.
- 11.
- What type of exams and homework will I have to do?
Exams and homework will vary considerably with the course and professor. All courses will require some form of analysis and problem solving. Some courses, like accounting, statistics, and finance, will be more quantitative than others. Many courses require individual or team projects and class presentations.

- I have already taken a course in accounting (or statistics, finance, etc.); may I waive or skip this particular course?
