FAQ

What are the library hours?

Please see our Library Hours.

How can I find books in the library?

The online book catalog, also known as Diamond, references all the materials available through the TUJ library. There are several ways you can locate books using this online catalogue. You can search by author, title, or subject. Make sure you have the drop down menu set to "Japan Library" before doing your search. Please talk to our staff if you need help finding books in the catalog or on the shelves.

How many books can I borrow?

Please see our Usage Guide.

Can I borrow videos?

Yes, the library is now circulating video tapes and DVDs.

How does it work?

Please see our Usage Guide for more details

How do I know the due date for books?

Please note the due date is stamped in the back of the book. Books returned after the due date are subject to late fines. You may contact us or come to the library to extend the due date.

Where are the reserve materials and how can I review them?

A list of reserve materials is kept in two binders at the library main desk. Reserves are held in the area behind the desk. Please ask our staff for help. If you have any questions about reserve materials, please contact us.

Note to Faculty:

  • As a general request, we ask that instructors bring their reserve materials to the library in advance. Processing usually requires one or two days.
  • We also ask that instructors drop copies of course syllabi off in the library. These are very helpful for students in identifying reserves and help clarify research projects. Please take a moment to drop a copy at the library main desk or e-mail the syllabus to the library. Thank you for your cooperation.

What does "placing a hold on a book" mean?

You may find that a book you want is checked out. This means that somebody has borrowed it and should return it on or before the due date. You can ask our staff to place a hold on the title. Putting a hold on an item is effective in two ways:

  1. It will prevent the current user from renewing the item, and
  2. It will allow our staff to contact you as soon as the item is returned to the library.

Do I need a TUJ student ID card to use the library?

The library requires a valid TUJ ID card, with current semester sticker. To get your ID card validated, contact our accounting staff in the business office. For those of you who come in for evening or weekend classes, please get your card validated during business hours or make arrangements with your department.

What are the TUJ alumni library privileges?

Upon presenting a valid alumni card, TUJ alumni may borrow up to three items (books, video tapes, etc.) at one time.

For more information, please consult the Alumni Benefits section on our website.

Can I bring my class in for a library tour?

Librarians will perform library tours. Please contact us to schedule a tour in advance. There will be no same day tours.

How can I donate books to the library?

To donate materials, please contact the library staff. Our policy on donated items is extremely simple. We always welcome donations of books and magazines, but please remember not all donated materials are added to the collection. We reserve the right to dispose of them as we see fit. Though we will provide a memo detailing the nature of the gift for tax purposes, we will not assign a monetary value to your donations.
