LL.M. in U.S. Law: Admissions Qualifications

The following qualifications represent the minimum criteria for admission to the LL.M. in U.S. Law program. Meeting the qualifications does not guarantee admission.

  1. A law degree (LL.B./LL.M./equivalent) or a license to practice law in your home jurisdiction.
  2. Minimum English score requirement (for non-native English speakers)
    Minimum score from a test taken no earlier than two years before the date you apply to TUJ:
    • TOEFL: PBT 570 / iBT 88
    • IELTS: 6.5 with no score below 6.0

Conditional Admission

Applicants with a lower TOEFL/IELTS score may be conditionally admitted to the law program in Tokyo. Please see Types of Admission for more information or contact us for assistance.

TOEFL/IELTS Waivers

Applicants requesting TOEFL or IETLS waivers must ensure that the academic transcripts they submit verify that they obtained their degree from an English-speaking institution. Please contact us to confirm your eligibility for a waiver.
