LL.M. in Transnational Law: Admissions Qualifications
The following qualifications represent the minimum criteria for admission to the LL.M. in Transnational Law program. Meeting the qualifications does not guarantee admission.
- A law degree (LL.B./LL.M./equivalent) from a jurisdiction outside Japan if you wish to complete the entire degree in Tokyo.
- Students holding a Japanese law degree must study abroad for one semester in Philadelphia, Rome, or Beijing.
- Minimum English score requirement (for non-native English speakers)
Minimum score from a test taken no earlier than two years before the date of application to TUJ:
- TOEFL: PBT 570 / iBT 88
- IELTS: 6.5 with no score below 6.0
Applicants requesting TOEFL or IETLS waivers must ensure that the academic transcripts they submit verify that they obtained their degree from an English-speaking institution. Please contact us to confirm your eligibility for a waiver.
Applicants who do not have permission to reside in Japan (because they are not citizens or do not already possess a visa entitling them to reside) must apply for a student visa through TUJ. For details about student visas, please contact us.
