Overview of Position

Temple University Japan (TUJ) is a branch campus of Philadelphia-based Temple University and has been in Tokyo since 1982. We offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs in English to a broad mix of about 1200 Japanese and non-Japanese students. Most students are admitted directly to TUJ and complete their degrees in Tokyo. About 8-10% are study abroad students from around the world coming on a semester-long basis. We offer eight full undergraduate majors ranging from Art to Psychological Studies. Our team is international, with 35 full time faculty joined by many part-time adjunct faculty from the professions, business, and the arts. TUJ holds classes in the Fall and Spring semesters (15 weeks) and over a 10 week Summer semester.

We seek an experienced instructor whose primary role will be to teach Intellectual Heritage, a two-semester, 6 credit humanities sequence required of all students as part of our general education (Gen Ed) program. Ideal candidates will have experience teaching in an international and Study Abroad context, particularly in an ESL environment. The new faculty member may also be able to offer additional courses of interest as well as other upper level courses in their own discipline.

The core teaching load is six courses a year, generally two in each of the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. Load can be adjusted to allow for approved research leaves and teaching additional courses will be compensated on a per-credit basis.
