Outline

Urbanization, climate change, civil society, and the impending leadership transition in 2012 are just some of the forces transforming China today. Elizabeth Economy looks out over the next five to seven years to offer some thoughts about the challenges and opportunities facing Beijing, as well as the rest of the world, as China’s dramatic political and economic evolution continues.

Dr. Econony, C.V. Starr Senior Fellow and Director for Asia Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, is one of the leading experts on China and the author, among other publications of the Award-winning The River Runs Black: The Environmental Challenges to China’s Future and is currently writing a new book on China’s rise and its geopolitical and strategic implications.
