Healthcare innovation has been supported by the emergence of new diagnostic tools and treatment procedures, recently triggered by the influence of patient advocacy groups. This presentation elaborates a dynamic view of innovation in medical technology and explains how physicians can contribute to emerging innovations. In Japan, with healthcare costs rising sharply, the benefits offered by advancing technology versus the fiscal cost have become a crucial area of public and policy debate.
