Introduction to Mandarin Chinese - Beginner (CSL101)
Interest in all things Chinese, including learning the language, has grown dramatically with China's remarkable development. This course introduces some basic conversational expressions useful when traveling, shopping and living in China. Students are introduced to basic grammar and to vocabulary useful in everyday communication. This course also offers students an opportunity to explore Chinese culture by examining, for example, the Chinese New Year, the popular music and musicians of China, and the stereotypes portrayed in popular Chinese TV dramas. The course assumes no prior knowledge of the Chinese language.
Min Lu was born in Shanghai and is fluent in Chinese, Japanese and English. She is an expert in the area of Second Language Acquisition. She teaches Mandarin Chinese for Beginners, Advanced Beginners and Intermediate level students. She started teaching in the Continuing Education Program from Spring 2004 and is currently working as the Administrative Director of TUJ's Graduate College of Education as well. At Temple University she graduated with her M.Ed in TESOL, and also received her BA in College of Liberal Arts with a Major in Communication and Mass Media and a minor in Asian Studies. She is interested in studying Chinese traditional medicine, singing, reading, and cooking.
