Course Details

Master the basics of wine! Swirl, sniff and sip wine like a pro. Each session we will taste and evaluate 7-12 premium wines specially selected from the world's greatest Old World or New World wine regions. Learn about the fascinating story of wine and the importance of "terroir & tradition." Discover the importance of viticulture/grape growing, and different methods of wine making and their impact on the price of wine.

Understand why some food and wine matches are made in heaven. Learn how to handle the wine waiter, shop for wine, understand wine labels, wine lists and vintages. We will look at the best way to select, invest in and cellar wines.

Class includes a visit from a professional from the international wine trade to show us the secrets of 'wine as a business' in class. This class runs for a total of 5 sessions of 4 hours each. This course is taught by a Certified Wine Educator and holder of a Diploma from WSET (Wine & Spirits Education Trust) London.

Special Note:

Students will be required to pay a one-time material fee of 20,000 to the instructor on the first class meeting to cover 5 weeks of fine wines valued at 120,000-200,000 total.


Sandra Shoji

Sandra Shoji, a transplanted Minnesotan, has been the wine columnist for a national Japanese newspaper since 2001. She also contributes on international marketing for Wines & Vines, America's premier winery business magazine. Sandra earned the top level of Diploma after four years of study with the Wine & Spirits Education Trust, London, the educational arm of the British wine business and the world's largest wine educational body. She has also studied with the renowned Institute of Masters of Wine. Sandra is a judge for the annual international Japan Wine Challenge.
