Fundamentals of Investments and Trading Securities (8 Weeks) (FOI101)

Fundamentals of Investments focuses on students as investment managers, giving them information to act on by placing theory and research in the proper context. The course offers strong, consistent pedagogy, including a balanced, unified treatment of the four main types of financial investments: stocks, bonds, options, and futures. Topics are organized in a way that makes them easy to apply - whether to a portfolio simulation or to real life - and supported with hands-on activities. Throughout the course actual trading of securities will be explained along with the use of indicators analyzing price action, pattern recognition, and technical analysis tools.
Dr. Manish Sharma is an adjunct professor at the Continuing Education Program at Temple University Japan Campus.
Besides delving in government think tank and management consulting, Dr. Sharma has spent almost 9 years doing macro-economic research and teaching, at premier institutions such as Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Tokyo, London School of Economics and Chuo University. Till April 2012, he worked at the Tokyo headquarter of Daiwa Capital Markets, as Director in the Corporate Finance Department.
Dr. Sharma runs an investment Advisory. He also works as a newscaster with NHK World Radio Japan and as an advisor to a Japan-Government funded alternative fuel venture. In 2006 he co-founded a rural primary education initiative in India. He has published in top-notch academic journals, edited books and newspapers.
He holds a Ph.D. in financial economics.
