Corporate Finance (8 Weeks) (CFI101)
Become familiar with many of the practical tactics used in the world of corporate financial management! In this course the student will gain a solid understanding of the most important issues in modern corporate finance: from relationships between stakeholders to valuation of mergers and acquisitions bids.
We will cover the fundamentals of capital budgeting, measurement of cost of capital, and working capital management before we move into more strategic related topics such as corporate governance and mergers & acquisitions. You will be able to interpret corporate financial data, evaluate projects, and obtain critical insights into allocating funds in ways that increase corporate value.
To enhance your understanding of the tools and techniques, the course makes extensive use of real-world examples. We will work on problems related to valuation methods, DuPont System of ratio analysis, corporate financial planning, real options and others that will help us bridge the gap between the concepts and their application into the real world.
Dr. Manish Sharma is an adjunct professor at the Continuing Education Program at Temple University Japan Campus.
Besides delving in government think tank and management consulting, Dr. Sharma has spent almost 9 years doing macro-economic research and teaching, at premier institutions such as Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Tokyo, London School of Economics and Chuo University. Till April 2012, he worked at the Tokyo headquarter of Daiwa Capital Markets, as Director in the Corporate Finance Department.
Dr. Sharma runs an investment Advisory. He also works as a newscaster with NHK World Radio Japan and as an advisor to a Japan-Government funded alternative fuel venture. In 2006 he co-founded a rural primary education initiative in India. He has published in top-notch academic journals, edited books and newspapers.
He holds a Ph.D. in financial economics.
