Prerequisite:
Students should have English skill approximately equivalent to a score of 500 on the TOEFL (CBT173).

Students interested in taking this course are asked to submit a 300 word essay on any topic of interest. Please note that applicants for this course should have taken IAW 100 or a previous English composition course prior to registration.(This should be sent by e-mail to conted@tuj.ac.jp or faxed to 03-5441-9811).

Course Details

This course is designed to help non-native speakers of English write organized, clear, and concise essays and research papers. The emphasis is on developing and organizing ideas and presenting information persuasively. Course topics include writing introductions, main messages, and conclusions; finding information from various sources; and summarizing and quoting sources (including direct quotation, paraphrasing and citation). Students will complete weekly written assignments, receive feedback on their work from the instructor and classmates, provide feedback to classmates, revise the assignments, and submit the assignments for further review.
