Basic English Grammar (GRA101)
This course has been canceled for this semester.
There is no doubt that expanding vocabulary will improve your English communication skills, but abundant vocabulary is wasted if grammar mistakes are obstructing the message you want to get across. In Japanese high schools, you learned most of the important basic rules of English Grammar such as word order and parts of speech, etc. However, you may have memorized grammar rules without fully understanding how English sentences are constructed or how these rules affect the meaning of your sentences. You then find yourself after years of studying English still committing grammar mistakes because you have created habits of incorrect grammar usage through the years. This course aims to break you out of those habits by giving you a solid understanding of English grammar and getting you used to internalizing and using the English language more fluently. By the end of the course you will realize that you have gained the following benefits: 1) improvement in all aspects of English skills (speaking, writing, listening and reading); 2) higher scores in English proficiency tests (TOEIC/TOEFL, etc.); and 3) confidence in presenting your ideas in English at meetings and presentations. Taught in Japanese, this class is intended for beginner-level students and for those who are struggling with low TOEIC scores. Taking TOEIC 100 simultaneously would also be of benefit if you are planning to take the TOEIC test in the near future.
